What is a geosite?

They are natural formations that represent geological and geomorphological phenomena representing a certain process, event, time or result that are rarely encountered on the earth and that can provide evidence of the past of the earth's crust. Geosites are formations of national and international importance, formed as a result of natural events or processes, generally of visual importance, such as rock assemblages, stratigraphic sequences, fossils, minerals, structures, landforms.
