German Hikers Visited the Geopark

A group of members of the Alpenverein, an outdoor sports association in Düsseldorf, Germany, came to Manisa as part of their walking program at the 7 churches mentioned in the Bible and the Kula Salihli Geopark. Nature lovers walked along the 14-kilometer track formed by the Gediz River and volcanic rocks, accompanied by autumn views, and received information about the geopark. Leading the team is Dr. Gregor Schwert said that they had the opportunity to visit some of the 7 churches mentioned in the Bible and enjoyed hiking in Turkey. “We and our group have never seen such a large volcanic field before,” Schwert said. There are small volcanic regions in Germany, but visiting a volcanic geopark of this size was a first for us. "Walking 14 kilometers in a volcanic area gave me and our group great happiness," he said. Stating that they brought a tourist group to the region for the first time, tour operator Cahit Köşger said that all 7 churches written in the Bible are located in Western Anatolia, but this is not well known in Europe. Stating that they want to activate the potential of the region, Köşger said, “We are planning a promotion together with Kula Geopark, with Salihli as the center, in terms of religious tourism. We aim to bring more tourists here by introducing the region at Europe's largest tourism fair, which will be held in Germany in March. "We plan to organize 15-20 tours here annually," he said.
