Geopark Municipalities Association November Assembly Meeting Held

The November meeting of the Geopark Municipalities Union took place yesterday (09.11.2021). Manisa Metropolitan Municipality and Geopark Municipalities Union President Cengiz Ergün, Salihli Mayor Zeki Kayda, Kula Mayor Hüseyin Tosun, Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Advisor Azmi Açıkdil, Kula-Salihli Geopark Coordinators Prof. attended the meeting. Dr. Tuncer Demir, Assoc. Dr. Ahmet Serdar Aytaç and council members attended. After the opening and roll call, the agenda items were discussed and decided.
Speaking after the agenda discussions, President Ergün stated that "Kula-Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark, as the only UNESCO registered geopark of the Turkic Republics, was invited to the UNESCO Geoparks in Central Asia - Sustainable management of geological disasters, water resources and tourism development" seminar held in Kyrgyzstan. .
Youth representative elected
On the other hand, in order to ensure the sustainability of the Kula-Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark, Istanbul Technical University Geological Engineering Master's Student Geologist Melike Yıldırım was elected as the youth representative of the geopark with the votes of the council members.
They shared their knowledge and experience
At the meeting, President of the Union Cengiz Ergün stated that Kula-Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark is a pioneer among the Turkic Republics and said that Kula-Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark was a part of the "UNESCO Geoparks in Central Asia - Geological disasters, water resources and tourism development" organized in Kyrgyzstan. He stated that he was invited to the "sustainable management" seminar. Academic Advisors representing Kula-Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark at the meeting held between 18-20 September. Dr. Tuncer Demir, Associate Professor. Ahmet Serdar Aytaç stated that they conveyed their knowledge and experience to geoscientists at the seminar.
