UNESCO inspection of the geopark has been completed

The Kula-Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark, the first and only geopark in our country, obtained international recognition by receiving a UNESCO certification in 2013. As part of the UNESCO inspection conducted every four years, the geopark underwent reevaluation from July 14 to 17 this year. During the inspection process, UNESCO auditors John Galloway from Ireland and Jean-Luc Desbois from France had the opportunity to visit significant tourist attractions in Salihli to observe the geopark's values firsthand. In Salihli, the audit included visits to tourist areas such as the Temple of Artemis, Gymnasium, Sart Ruins, Bintepeler, Adala Atatürk House, Adala Girl Bridge, and Adala Canyon. The auditors were also hosted at the Salihli Kurşunlu Hot Springs and met with local authorities in Salihli to exchange views on the future of the geopark. On the last evening of the inspection, a special dinner prepared by the Salihli Municipality was organized, and Salihli Mayor Zeki Kayda presented gifts to the auditors. Following the inspections, on July 15, Saturday, the UNESCO auditors moved on to Kula. In Kula, they visited significant points such as the historic Kula Bazaar, Fairy Chimneys, Çakırca Basalt Columns, the Old Church, and Dr. Aris House, which serves as the Kula Municipality's Carpet Workshop and has been restored by the Metropolitan Municipality of Manisa. Additionally, they inspected the streets of Kula Historical Houses, the Geopark Visitor Center, Kula Divlit, Sandal Divlit regions, walking paths within lava flows, and wooden bridges. The conservation and sustainability efforts of the Kula-Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark were successfully evaluated during the UNESCO inspection process. As a result of this inspection, the geopark's compliance with international standards has once again been confirmed. The geopark continues to be an important tourist destination for our country with its rich natural and cultural heritage. Therefore, we invite everyone to visit the Kula-Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark and experience this unique adventure.
