Kula-Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark field guides training seminar was given

25 people received their certificates within the scope of the field guide training initiated in cooperation with the Directorate of Public Education for touristic development at the Kula-Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark, Turkey's only representative in the international geoparks network. Following the 90-hour Rural Tourism Course, which was held in cooperation with the Union of Geopark Municipalities and Kula Public Education Directorate and given by Instructor Ali Karataş, Tourism Officer of the Union of Geopark Municipalities, Kula - Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark Coordinator Akdeniz University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Tuncer Demir answered the most curious and frequently asked questions about geological formations. Touching on the importance of rural tourism in local development, Prof. Demir pointed out that local guides are important in terms of tourism affecting rural development. Demir said, “Our guides who receive certificates from us will tour the site to geopark visitors and in this way they will earn economic income. "We plan to provide them with additional training, especially on marketing local products produced in the region to visitors who will visit the site." he said. It was also stated that a total of 75 people received field guidance training in Kula and Salihli districts, with the training given by Instructor Ali Karataş. Prof. visited the field after the training and examined the Geopark Visitor Center, which is under construction. Demir stated that the center will be opened towards the end of March and that it will be of great importance to welcome and inform visitors.
