Architects Discovered Kula

The advisor to the mayor of Manisa Metropolitan Municipality, Architect Azmi Açıkdil, along with a group of architects, toured natural and historical sites in the Kula district. The tour, guided by Geopark Tourism Manager Ali Karataş and Geopark Education Manager Mesut Kolbüken, started at the Kula Divlit Volcanic Park area, beginning at the visitor center. Guests explored the Kula Fairy Chimneys and Çakırca Basalt Columns, had a nature walk, and visited historical houses in the village of İncesu (Gölde) and historical houses in the center of Kula, examining the architectural texture. Azmi Açıkdil, Advisor to the Mayor of Manisa Metropolitan Municipality, provided comments on the tour they conducted in Kula and Salihli. During the trip, he mentioned visiting the construction site of the Manisa Liberation Museum, commissioned by Manisa Metropolitan Municipality, with the architect of the museum leading a group of 20 people and providing information about the museum and the project. He also stated that they visited Kula and Salihli, stayed overnight in Kula, and discussed various restoration projects in Kula, including the ongoing "Bekir Beyler House" restoration initiated by Kula Municipality. Açıkdil expressed his affection for Kula, emphasizing the need for more sensitivity to tourism. He highlighted the importance of boutique hotels, guesthouses, and giving importance to gastronomic tourism. Despite the decrease in the variety of local dishes over the years, he expressed admiration for the taste of Kula Güveç they had in Ekmekçioğlu. Açıkdil urged for a more proactive approach to tourism, emphasizing the importance of preserving and promoting local dishes. In a self-critical manner, Açıkdil acknowledged his love for Kula and expressed concern about the dwindling variety of local dishes. He hoped for the proliferation of historical houses, the establishment of boutique hotels and guesthouses, and the promotion of gastronomic tourism in Kula. Architect Nevzat Sayın, who toured Kula, shared his impressions, recalling his first visit in 1976 as an architecture student. He emphasized Kula's uniqueness and potential but expressed concerns about the decline in small-scale agriculture and local initiatives due to the lack of significant government policies. Sayın praised the restoration of certain buildings, such as the Beyler Mansion, and hoped for their increased number, suggesting that they could contribute to the preservation of local knowledge and traditions.
