Historical Kula Houses

The city of Kula is one of the best preserved examples of 18th century Ottoman urban architecture in Turkey. Kula houses reflect not only the architectural style but also a general image of daily social life in Ottoman cities. Today, approximately 1200 of the 3000 historical buildings, including mosques, churches, fountains and famous mansions, are registered as Kula Urban Protected Area and are protected by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. In the city established at the foot of the Kula Divlit Volcano Cone, basalts and schists, which are common in the region, were used in the residences and streets.
